before we begin just let me tell you a little bit about my home town,edinburgh has been some kind of town since the days of the roman invasion of scotland,many thousands of years ago,lets start our wee tour from the catle,which has stood on castle rock for many more yrs than i care to remember,lol,the castle it,s self is very interesting,it has been a garrison,a royal residence,and the home of the world famous military tattoo,held on the castle esplanade every year,while we are here why not take a wee look inside the castle for your self,it has many interesting exhibits for the visitor to see.just before you enter the castle have a wee look around the esplanade and see if you can spot the area where they used to burn people for witchcraft,as wee leave the castle lets walk down the royal mile a bit,why is it called the royal mile you may ask?believed to be the oldest street in edinburgh,the royal mile extends 1 mile and 107 yardsfrom the castle in the west to the gates of the palace in the east,running down the shoulder of the hill from castle,the royal mile comprises a number of connected streets,starting with castle hill,then lawnmarket,hight street,cannongate,and abby street,as described by the writer,daniel defoe,it is the largest,longest,and finest street in the world,and provides a fasinating insight into the citys historyand indeed scotland itself.
